I remember when I first heard about Matter and thought, wow, they’re the kind of clothes worn by cool girls who care about the environment and social entrepreneurship! So of course I bought a pair. I’d seen two of my friends wear the sideswept dhoti, and it looked pretty good on them.

Fit and sizing

So here’s what it looks like on me, in size 1. The waist is very adjustable because of the wrap ties. One thing I don’t really like is the way it makes my hips look huge.

I’m sending them to the alteration tailor to shorten the legs by 1.5 inches. When I wear it with Birkenstocks, the front part of the legs keeps catching when I walk.

Design

I love these trousers for the unusual design and unique print. It also has a pocket! But it isn’t a close-able pocket, so don’t count on leaving your phone in it.

It looks neater on the model (of course). One thing I found annoying is that the inside seam seems to hitch up, and I have no idea how to rectify it. I even contacted the customer support team, who directed me to this video. While the video is quite informative on 3 different ways to wear the sideswept dhoti, it didn’t help me with the inseam issue.

Another issue with this design is… going to the bathroom. Because of the long wrap ties, it can get a little complicated when un-tying and re-tying them. One tip my friend gave me is, when you untie the ties, knot the ends and loop them over your head to avoid dropping the ties on the bathroom floor.

Material

Very comfortable cotton material, great for hot weather.
