Mister Zimi Review: Saskia Dress in Bloom

I’ve been a huge fan of Mister Zimi’s colourful prints, ever since I first saw their shop in Bali (now closed, sadly). At the time, I found their designs to swamp my small frame, so I never purchased anything before.

I rediscovered them on Instagram and the Saskia dress caught my eye. Although they have free shipping over AUD95, I was quite worried about purchasing from them because I’d have to pay for returns if the dress didn’t fit! I also wasn’t sure what the print would look like in real life because all the photos looked like they were Photoshopped.

I eventually took the leap after browsing enough photos of their customers wearing the dress.

Fit and sizing

Their sizing is quite accurate. When I took my measurements against the product’s measurements, I chose a size 8. And the waist did indeed fit quite snugly. It’s the rest of the dress that feels a bit large.

I found the sleeves to be a bit long - on the model, the sleeve ends at the elbow. I found the neckline to be quite low, and it felt like it was designed for women with a more ample bust and longer torso. If you look at the side photo you can see it’s a bit puffy at the back.

The length was an acceptable length on me, but I thought it still made the whole dress look a bit big on me. On the model, the dress stops below the calf. So I sent this dress to the alteration tailor.

After I altered the length by cutting off a few inches, I thought the length was much more proportionate to my petite frame. It looked much more flattering on me.

Design

The print colours are hard to capture correctly in a photo, so I’d describe the blue as more of a cobalt blue. In the photos it looks like a navy blue, but it’s much brighter in real life.

Loooove this print. It’s bright without being trashy. I’ve received many compliments while wearing this dress.

Material

The material is viscose, which Mister Zimi describes as behaving and breathing like silk, but more durable and easy to care for.

This dress does wrinkle a bit so you have to be careful when you’re sitting. This also means that if you plan to travel with this dress, you’ll need to have an iron on hand.
