Mulberry Review: Amberley Hobo Bag

I was eyeing this bag for a year, ever since I first saw it on someone’s Instagram post. I loved the practicality of it – two bags in one? Yes, please! I imagined this would be a practical bag for travelling.

When I was looking to buy this, it was so hard to figure out exactly what this bag looked like when worn. This isn’t one of the popular trendy models that people buy, so it’s barely featured in any content. I hope this post will help you if you’re considering the same bag.

I ended up buying this from Farfetch when they had a sale, but returned it because it was just too big and heavy.

Fit and sizing

This bag is larger and deeper than expected. When I put my hand into the bag, the top of the bag was past my elbow when my fingers touched the bottom of the bag. This is roomy enough to carry a 13-inch laptop and much more.

As you can see from the photos below, this bag is much too large for a petite person. From the front and side, it looked okay. But from the back, it looked out of proportion.

This bag is heavy! The bag alone weighs 0.85kg. The pouch weighs 0.35kg. Attached together, that’s 1.2kg when the bag is empty!

Design

The Mulberry product photos are close, but I think they edited the photos to look a bit warmer. The colour description is quite accurate though, it really does resemble the colour of wet clay. In real life the colour is a sort of mid-grey.

I love that the front pouch can detach and be worn separately as a crossbody bag (photos below). It attaches quite easily by two straps at the back of the pouch, with button closures.

I love the Mulberry lock enclosure, and the ties on the side of the bag made it feel a bit more special.
